Outreach

Picture

As a parish, we seek to act in response to Christ’s words, “Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me.” Each of us
serves those in need who work and live beyond the physical borders of the church and its grounds, through our church and as individuals. Here are a few of the organizations we support:

Sunday School Outreach Project

This year, the children of the Sunday School have been having fun while hard at work on their special outreach project. They have been in contact with school children in South Africa, exchanging cards and emails. The children decided to raise funds to send children's books. They raised funds by hosting a coffee hour and having a bake sale.

Our children have learned so much about people living in another part of the world!

Weymouth Food Pantry

In addition to financial support, donations of items for the food pantry are collected here the first Sunday of each month, which are then delivered to the Weymouth Food Pantry. You can get more information on the organization on their website, www.weymouthfoodpantry.org/

United Thank Offering

Picture
United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through United Thank Offering, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. The link to their website is:

Whittaker House

The Whittaker House is a long-term-care home in South Weymouth. The Men's Spiritual Discussion Group regularly holds Saturday brunches for Whittaker residents, has held parties and cookouts, and has brought residents to see movies at our local Cameo Theatre.

The Men also create Christmas packages for residents.

Youth with a Mission (YWAM)

The Parada family: Alberto, Joanna, Ana, Isaac, Margaret and Phoebe, with deep ties to The Church of the Holy Nativity, are missionaries in South Africa with Youth With a Mission (YWAM).  They are sent out by Park Street Church in Boston. They have their own website with updates about their ministry and to provide information about how you can partner with them through prayer and finances. Go to www.paradas.org for more information.

As a Lenten outreach project, the Sunday School is reaching across the ocean to a school in a very poor area. They will be doing fundraising so they can send some books and financial assistance.

The Women's Evening Group's outreach project involves making simple sweaters for young disadvantaged children, as winter approaches the southern hemisphere. If you would like to participate in this project, feel free to download this pattern.
knit_for_needy_kids_-_sweater_pattern.pdf  Completed sweaters can be left in the designated basket in the Asher Stoddard Hall and they will be delivered.

Weymouth Youth and Family Services

Picture
The Church of the Holy Nativity partners with Weymouth Youth and Family Services to support local families during difficult times. Annually, we adopt several local families and provide Christmas gifts. We receive wish lists from family members and our congregation purchases whatever they can - anything from toys. sports gear or clothes to gifts cards. The gifts are then wrapped and delivered to Weymouth Youth and Family Services for distribution.
